Recent changes to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) are set to bring significant improvements and supports slashed for both participants and providers. On September 5, 2024, the Australian Government passed the National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Getting the NDIS Back on Track No.1) Bill 2024, which received Royal Assent.

This new legislation introduces key reforms to ensure supposedly fairer, more transparent, and sustainable service delivery under the NDIS.

- Clearer Guidelines: New laws reportedly seek to clarify the distinction between NDIS-funded supports and those covered by mainstream services, helping providers to better align their offerings.
- Impairment Notices: Participants will now receive detailed impairment notices, allowing providers to tailor their services more accurately​ (Ability Assist).
- Funding Transparency: New plans will include both total and component funding amounts, enabling providers to plan and deliver services within clearly defined budgets ​(NDIS).
- Plan Adjustments: Flexibility in plan variations will allow providers to respond quickly to changes without needing a complete overhaul of participant plans.
These changes reportedly aim to enhance participant choice and control while ensuring providers can deliver services within a fairer and more sustainable framework.
